Years 7, 8 & 9
Students in Year 7 are taught a wide range of techniques such as drawing, incorporating tone, texture and form using a range of materials to explore these techniques. They explore sculpture, painting, printmaking and clay with drawing as a fundamental. They explore and learn to emulate varied cultural significant artists from different periods in art history and styles.
Students in Year 8 begin the year looking at their surroundings and artists who explore natural forms and the environment. Other topics include portraiture, sculpture, colour theory and mood along with basic photographic techniques and urban graffiti. The fundamentals of Year 7 are incorporated in each topic or style.
Students in Year 9 explore their place in the world and how they interact in society delving into social issues common to teens such as conflict. They continue to expand their skill base in painting, clay, printmaking and look at historical and contemporary artists who will guide them into GCSE Art and Design.
