Twickenham School partnership with Harlequins

We are incredibly proud to be working closely with The Harlequins Foundation to deliver a programme of activities for both our students and our local primary partners.

Skills builder:

As part of our partnership with skills builder, The Harlequins Foundation have produced a sports toolkit which supports young people to develop the essential skills that they need to succeed through sport.

Our coaches use this toolkit and framework in every session that we deliver, to support learners to reach their potential in every area of their life.

Programmes aligned with skills builder:
  • HITZ on track - HITZ on track is a six-week programme that has been designed as a short-term intervention option for young people between the ages of 14-16 who have been identified by schools as at risk of exclusion, or potentially not having a positive destination come the end of year 11.
  • Skills builder mentoring - The group of students are selected by their school to be part of the programme. Students will have monthly 1 to 1's with their assigned mentor where they will discuss suggestions and ideas on how they can take the next steps in their Essential Skills development. As well as the 1 to 1's, students will also be able to participate in group sessions where Harlequins staff will go through more detailed subjects, and career opportunities. All of these subjects relate back to the Essential Skills the students will have been working on.
  • METTLE - Developed for primary and secondary schools as well as universities, METTLE uses the resources and experience of The Harlequins Foundation to raise awareness and challenge the stigma of mental health, while developing mental resilience in the young people involved. METTLE is broken down across four topics: Relationships | Emotions | Self-care | Physical activity.
  • SWITCH - Developed by The Harlequins Foundation, SWITCH is a multi-tiered programme aimed at encouraging girls to get involved in rugby or sport.
  • Robot Rugby - Robot Rugby seeks to inspire and excite young people about the importance of STEM in elite sport, all while providing pupils with hands-on experience of coding and robotics.  Robot Rugby coding sessions are carefully aligned to the current curriculum. During the course of the day, pupils are introduced to coding using the Sphero Edu learning app where our facilitators help to guide their learning using 3 coding canvasses: Draw, Blocks and Text.
  • Rugby provision - Traditional rugby delivery for all aged pupils. Whether its introducing the sport to learners or more advanced players. We plan and deliver sessions to meet the needs of the learners.
