Product Design

Years 7, 8 & 9

Students are taught one lesson per week in Product Design and Graphic Design in Years 7 to 9.  In Key Stage 3 the goal is to develop a range of practical, design and manufacturing skills through projects and theory work.  Students will usually do 3 main projects in the Year with quality outcomes being produced.  They will document this progress in booklets which are kept in a portfolio along with a book which record theory lessons and subject knowledge that they are taught in line with National Curriculum guidelines.

Years 10 & 11

Students can choose to study GCSE Product Design in Years 10 and 11. It is a great opportunity to learn how Graphic Designers, Architects and Product Designers approach design problems. Students will learn to use advanced manufacturing techniques, including Computer Aided Manufacturing and Laser Cutting. Graphics students produce products using card, paper, foam board and modelling materials. Their products are always very creative, demonstrating flair and imagination.

The GCSE course culminates in students designing and making a product to suit real design needs they identify themselves. At this level students follow the AQA syllabus.
