Hot weather management

Posted on: 23/06/2026

With very hot weather forecast this week, temperatures in some parts of the school are likely to be higher than usual. In large areas of the school, we do have a well-managed temperature control and in others we have good air conditioning.

However, we have taken a number of steps to help keep pupils and staff as comfortable as possible:

• Relaxed the uniform dress code and encouraged pupils to wear Twickenham PE kit if desired
• Encouraging pupils to stay hydrated and refill their water bottles more regularly than usual
• Keeping classroom blinds down where appropriate to provide shade
• Actively monitoring the temperature of classrooms throughout the day to inform changes
• Re-scheduling lessons from the warmest classrooms where possible
• Increasing the use of fans in classrooms, some specialist classrooms also already contain air conditioning
• Adapted PE activities to reflect the hot weather
• Adapted some lesson activities to remove the risk of increasing room temperature (e.g. no bunsen burner use in Science)
• Providing more shaded seating areas, including additional temporary gazebos on the playground.

In addition, today the MUGA Playground will be closed at lunchtime. The indoor Sports Hall will be open instead, to protect students from the sun.

Parents will be informed of any decisions about any further changes for tomorrow (Wednesday) by 3.00pm today.

Best wishes,
